Celebrating 10 Years of Brotherhood

Overview

VANDAL is an acronym that describes the attributes of past, present and future students and residents of Commonwealth Hall, University of Ghana. Vandalism is a culture with a philosophy; it is a way of life that promotes respect for all without any prejudice. Vandalism is the highest form of religion where people love their neighbours more than they love themselves. Vandalism as a culture preaches fairness, equality, freedom and above all justice – regardless of ethnicity, religion, political ideology, world view and national or tribal origin. The term VANDAL, as used by present and past students of Commonwealth Hall and associates to describe themselves, is an acronym. The acronym VANDAL is a combined summation of the attributes of Vandals and stands for the following: Vivacious, Affable, Neighbourly, Devoted/Dedicated, Altruistic and Loyal.

Main Hall Utility and Sanitation Refurbishment

For generations, Commonwealth Hall, the Vandal City, has been more than just a

student residence. It is a home, a crucible of character, and a proud Hall at the heart of

the University of Ghana, Legon. The Old Vandals Association (OVA) has always

believed that the quality of that home must reflect the pride we carry as Vandals. That

belief is now visible in brick, tile, and flowing water.

We are thrilled to share the progress and completion of the Main Hall Utility and

Sanitation Refurbishment Project, one of OVA's most tangible investments in the

everyday comfort and well-being of current residents of Commonwealth Hall.

Why this project matters

Good sanitation is not a luxury; it is a foundation. Students who live in dignified,

functional conditions are better positioned to focus on their studies, build community,

and thrive. For too long, ageing infrastructure had placed an unnecessary burden on the

daily lives of Vandals in the main hall. OVA stepped in to change that.

These upgrades targeted essential services that affect students' daily lives.

Water supply systems received attention.

Sanitation facilities were refurbished to improve hygiene standards.

Lavatories and supporting plumbing infrastructure were upgraded.

A living legacy

The walls of Commonwealth Hall carry decades of history, resilience, and brotherhood.

Every upgrade we make is an act of love, a signal to current and future Vandals that

they are valued, and that those who walked these corridors before them never stopped

caring.

The OVA remains committed to further improving the infrastructure and environment of

Commonwealth Hall. If you would like to support future projects or learn how to get

involved, please reach out to us at [email protected]

Once a Vandal, always a Vandal.
